Myspace to acquire iLike

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Picture 143Myspace is close to acquiring the popular social music service iLike for close to $20 million.

iLike is a social music recommendation service that launched in 2006. With the success of Myspace music, by acquiring iLike; myspace will lock down it’s leading position for most popular online identity for bands.

What’s interesting about this story is that iLike is deeply integrated into Facebook as one of it’s most popular applications with 10 million users monthly. With Myspace being facebook’s main competition we will have to see how this plays out. Why didn’t facebook just buy iLike?
